About the Event

Visitors will have the opportunity to see two new exhibitions: Recent Acquisitions: American Stories in the Collection and BRANCH: Trees in American Art during Alumni Weekend.

The Trout Gallery is celebrating recent acquisitions to the museum’s permanent collection made possible through generous donations. In conjunction with America250 commemorations, all the works on display are by American artists and focus on the diversity of American stories. Select artists include Minna Citron, Mel Edwards, Audrey Flack, Guerrilla Girls, Alfred Jensen, Roberto Lugo, Maria Martinez, and Cindy Sherman, among others.

BRANCH: Trees in American Art tells stories of America through a variety of artworks representing trees. From nineteenth‑century paintings that reveal how timber played a central role in the colonization and exploitation of the land, to works by Indigenous artists that emphasize reciprocal relationships with the natural world, the exhibition highlights how artists use trees to express national, cultural, spiritual, and personal identities…
