La Lune (the moon) as well as a number of other sculptural works mark the perimeter of the Paz Alumni Center thanks to a generous gift from Dickinson College alumnus Sam Rose `58. Throughout her distinguished career as a multimedia artist, Nikki de Saint Phalle created sculptures inspired by symbols of femininity. Her work often depicts mythical figures or refers to the imagery of tarot cards. La Lune, for example, represents the moon card. Here, a celestial face, signifying dreams and intuition, is supported by a red crayfish and held by a wolf and a dog, characterizing the traits of wildness and civility.
If you turn now to your right, you will see a gleaming black dog along the path around the Paz. This is your next stop.
