The Trout Gallery partners with faculty across disciplines to enrich course content through direct investigation of objects in The Gallery's exhibitions and collections. Education staff can provide faculty consultations to discuss connections between objects and course content as well as a variety of class format options. Exhibition Visit

Bring your class to The Trout Gallery to explore current exhibitions. Education staff can tailor exhibition visits to the curricular topics or goals of the course.

First Year Seminars

The Trout Gallery is an all-campus resource ideally introduced to students in their first year at Dickinson. Programs such as Close Looking, Audience Perspectives, and Developing an Interpretation are designed to compliment the goals of First Year Seminars and teach students how to work with visual materials.

Out of the Vault Programs

The Trout Gallery has 12,000 objects in its permanent collection. Faculty may schedule class visits to explore these objects as they relate to course topics or learning goals. As Out of the Vault programs are popular, please schedule 1-2 months in advance of desired visit date.

The Curricular Gallery

Faculty may request objects from the permanent collection be put on view in the Curricular Gallery for student study. Located on the lower level of The Gallery, the Curricular Gallery is open during Trout regular hours, Mon-Sat 10am-4pm.

Language Class Visits

The Trout Gallery's award-winning Language programs are designed based on the principles of Second Language Acquisition. Through classes taught by Trout interns fluent in the target language, visiting students expand their conversational skills and broaden their working vocabulary while exploring issues of culture and community central to language learning goals.

More than one hundred language classes participate in such programs each year.

The Trout Gallery collections represent a rich resource for student study and research. Faculty may develop assignments or paper topics centered on collections objects, which provides students with experience working with objects and conducting primary source research.
